Baillon's Crake

 𝐁𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐞 (𝐙𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐚 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚), also known as the 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐞, is a 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝 of the 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐞. Their 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭 is 𝐬𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐬 in 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞, mainly in the 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭, and 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 the 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜.  They 𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭 in a 𝐝𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in 𝐰𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐠𝐬, laying 𝟒–𝟖 𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐬. This species is 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 in 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 and 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚.It is also a 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫 in 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 and 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐚.  They are 𝟏𝟔–𝟏𝟖 𝐜𝐦 in 𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡, and are 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 to the only 𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐞. Baillon's Crake has a 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥, 𝐲𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 or 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞. 𝐀𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 have mainly 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 with some 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, and a 𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞-𝐠𝐫𝐞...

 The 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞 (𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚 or 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚) is a 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬/𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 of Giraffe 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 to the 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. It is differentiated from other types of Giraffe by its 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐭, which consists of 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞, 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 (or 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝), 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤-𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐬, which 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 onto the 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐬, 𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 and 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞. These prominent 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫-𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐬 also show 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦, when 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 to 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬. With up to 𝟔 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 in 𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, the reticulated giraffe is the 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞 and the 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥.
