 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐢 lies in 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐞, close to the borders with 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚 and 𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚.The place offers some of the best 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 opportunities in Europe.𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤 was established in 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟔.


There are 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟑𝟎𝟎 different bird species in the area. The 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 inhabitant is the 𝐃𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧.𝐃𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐬 (𝐏𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐮𝐬) are the 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 members of the pelican family.While it is possible to photograph the Dalmatian pelicans all year round, it is the 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 that provide the most dramatic photographic options.

Be it 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐬,𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐬 or 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 in the 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 of 𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 or 𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐭,Lake Kerkini is the best place to visit for photographing Dalmatian Pelicans.
